We extended our winning streak to nine Women’s Super League fixtures on Sunday with a thrilling 4-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Meadow Park.
Despite dominating the opening exchanges and creating a number of golden chances, it was the visitors who opened the scoring.
Vivianne Miedema and Danielle van de Donk’s dangerous efforts were somehow kept out from inside the six-yard box - and shortly after we were punished by Ini Umotong.
The Brighton No 9 caught our defence off guard, raced through on goal and confidently finished past Sari van Veenendaal.
However, their early strike failed to stifle our confidence in the final third - and in the 24th minute Miedema levelled.
The Netherlands International pounced on a misplaced pass and rounded the onrushing Marie Hourihan, before coolly slotting home her 14th WSL goal of the season.
Hourihan then went on to make two fine saves to deny Katie McCabe and Miedema in quick succession - but less than five minutes later we’d completed the comeback.
Miedema raced to the byeline and picked out Dominique Bloodworth inside the area, who made no mistake with a low drive.
Montemurro encouraged his team to push on from the sidelines, and as a result, we managed to double our advantage before half-time.
Beth Mead whipped in a dangerous corner and Van de Donk was first to react, heading home from close range.
Following the break, Mead fired fizzed a left-footed effort wide from the edge of the box, before Lia Walti came close to scoring her first goal in Arsenal colours.
In truth, the tempo dropped in the second half - but that didn’t stop Mead from working her way onto the scoresheet.
The 23-year-old forward received the ball on the left wing and checked inside, before firing the ball into the top corner with a stunning curling effort.
